A guide to Hampstead: Where to live, eat and explore
You’ve probably heard of Hampstead – and for good reason. Leafy, laid-back, and full of character, it's one of London’s most sought-after neighbourhoods.
A hilltop neighbourhood in North West London, it’s an infectious mix of old and new, and feels genuinely like a world of its own. A place where cobbled streets and cosy pubs sit side by side with modern art spaces and eateries.
With Hampstead Heath at its heart, period homes all around, and central London just minutes away by public transport, Hampstead strikes a rare balance – calm, creative, and surprisingly well-connected. Whether you’re a student or a working professional, it’s a great place to call home.
Where is Hampstead?
Hampstead is located within the London Borough of Camden and borders two very nice areas: Highgate to the north and West Hampstead to the west.

What to do in Hampstead
Stroll Hampstead Heath
A local treasure and one of London’s best-loved green spaces, Hampstead Heath spans over 800 acres of meadows, woodlands, and rolling hills. Take in skyline views from Parliament Hill, go for a walk in Kenwood House gardens, or simply unwind among the trees. It’s also inspired countless writers – including C.S. Lewis, who used it as a reference point for The Chronicles of Narnia.
Swim in the Hampstead Heath Ponds
Swimming is part of Hampstead’s DNA. The Hampstead Heath Ponds offer something for everyone – including separate Men’s and Women’s ponds, plus a mixed pond for those who prefer to swim together. There’s also the open-air Parliament Hill Lido. Open year-round, these spots provide a refreshing and uniquely London experience – loved by locals and visitors alike.
Explore The Hill Garden and Pergola
This beautiful attraction feels like something out of a period film: a sweeping raised walkway draped in wisteria and ivy, surrounded by exquisite landscaped gardens. As photogenic spots in London go, it’s one of the best, and it looks especially stunning at golden hour.
Browse Hampstead High Street
Full of indie boutiques, local bookshops, historic pubs and charming cafes, Hampstead High Street has it all. And is ideal for browsing, brunching or grabbing a quiet coffee.
Wander Flask Walk
A charming alley full of indie shops and cafés, Flask Walk is a proper hidden gem – easy to miss but hard not to fall in love with. It’s also home to one of Hampstead’s best drinking dens: the historic Flask pub. A local favourite, known for its good food and quality selection of beers.
